Video Preparation Guide

So, you are nervous about making a video?  What do I say? What do I wear?
What happens if I make a mistake?

Getting in front of a camera can be a nerve-racking experience. Even
newscasters sweat and worry about making mistakes. Fortunately, there are a
few things that you can do ahead of time to make your video shoot go smoothly
and alleviate some of the stress.

1.  Be Yourself!
Consumers want to get to know the person they will be doing business
with, not see paid actors. Being honest and sincere will attract more
customers and give them the personal attention they look for in local
 business.

2.  Make a script.
Although a script is not required, a script or outline of what you would like
to say can be extremely useful.  A good rule of thumb is 120 words = 60
seconds at a normal reading pace.  Read your script and time it to get a
rough estimate of length. Focus on an intro, what makes you unique, and
an outro.

3.  Speak in sound bytes.
You do not have to memorize your script! We will have you speak a few
sentences at a time and edit them together to sound continuous.

While on camera, try to look at the lens and pause a few seconds before
and after each take to allow room for editing. This will make your video
flow smoothly and not have your voice get cut off.

4.  Dress to impress.
Wear something that fits your image. If you are a contractor, your
customers probably don’t want to see you in a suit. On the technical side,
the color red, polka dots, hounds tooth jackets, and other busy patterns
cause  problems with the video picture and should be avoided.

5.  Everyone makes mistakes.
That is the great thing about editing! If you make a mistake, we can
retake, re-cut, and make sure the final video is nothing but your best.

We will take care of the rest.
Just remember to be yourself, relax, and have fun!
